How to import content from an existing website
What this does
You can point the product at any existing docs, help, or FAQ site and it will crawl the pages and turn them into drafts for you to review. Nothing is published automatically — every page lands in your Review Inbox first so you can approve, edit, or discard it.
Where to find it
- Go to Connectors in the main navigation.
- Scroll to the Site Import section.
If your plan does not include Site Import, you will see an upgrade prompt instead of the import form. Site Import is available on the Startup plan and above.
How to run an import
- In the Site Import section, paste the full URL of the site you want to crawl into the URL field (for example,
https://docs.yoursite.com). - Click Import.
- The import starts immediately. You will see a status indicator — Queued, Crawling, or Drafting — that updates automatically while the run is in progress.
- When drafting is complete, the status changes to Done. Click View drafts in Review Inbox to see the pages that were created.
Watching progress
Each import run shows:
- The URL you submitted
- Current status (Queued, Crawling, Drafting, Done, or Failed)
- How many pages have been drafted out of the total pages found
- How long ago the run was started
The status refreshes on its own while a run is active, so you do not need to reload the page.
Cancelling a run
To stop an import before it finishes, click Cancel next to the active run. The button changes to Cancelling… while the request is processed.
Things to know
- Only one import can be active at a time. The URL field and Import button are disabled while a run is in progress.
- If the crawled site did not have clearly structured docs or help pages, the run completes with a Low confidence warning. Review those drafts carefully before publishing.
- If a run fails, an error message appears below the run entry explaining what went wrong.
- Imports are one-time crawls. They do not sync automatically if the source site changes later.
- You must have manage permissions for your organization to start or cancel an import.
